Action for Children celebrated its 150th birthday at the Senedd on the 5th December. Vaughan Gething AM, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services sponsored the event and made a keynote speech.

The audience were treated to a historical performance on Action for Children from Headlands School’s drama group and a slice of the 150th birthday cake. Those gathered also took time to hear from young people who have benefitted from the charity’s services and speak to staff who are in the frontline delivering the diverse and innovative Action for Children projects.

Vaughan Gethin AM said: ‘It’s a pleasure to be able to sponsor a celebration event for 150 years of Action for Children in the Senedd. I have Action for Children’s Headlands School in my constituency but more than that, I can see the continuing value of their work. So a past to celebrate but also a future to be proud of helping to improve the lives children and young people right across the United Kingdom.’

Brigitte Gater, national director for Action for Children in Wales, said: ‘It was a wonderful celebration in a beautiful venue. The Headlands children stole the show as they always do and it was lovely to take a moment to appreciate what Action for Children does for children and young people across Wales.

‘We never stand still and that passion was evident in the Senedd as everyone got together to celebrate. We proudly provide innovative children’s homes, family support and wellbeing services in Wales and I’m delighted we could showcase our many projects at the seat of Welsh Government.’
