A group of 30 young carers from Milford Haven supported by Action for Children have enjoyed some festive bowling fun thanks to the Rotary Club of Milford Haven.

The Rotary Club hired lanes at the Phoenix Bowl in Milford Haven and gave the young carers the chance for a final get-together before Christmas.

Paul Garnish from the Rotary Club of Milford Haven said: ‘We do this annually and it’s about putting a little back into the community and giving the children a chance to have an evening off, game of bowling and some pizza and chips to finish off, which they all enjoy. It’s really important to help young carers and we do a lot of fundraising throughout the year and one of the great groups to give to is the young carers. People in Milford Haven are very generous in helping us to raise the money and it’s only right and proper that we put some of that back into the young people of the area.’

Vikki Phillips, family support practitioner for Pembrokeshire Young Carers, said: ‘The young carers had a great time at the Phoenix Bowl. We’re so grateful to the Rotary of Club of Milford Haven for putting this special event on as Christmas can be a very challenging time for young carers. The burden of responsibility these young people face cannot be overestimated in caring for their families.

‘It’s vital we provide some support, respite, fun days out and critically, the chance to mix with young people who are in similar positions. It’s wonderful the Rotary Club and the people of Milford Haven who so kindly donate have helped these amazing young people have a much needed evening off and so much fun.’
