We are open for applications for a wide range of interesting work experience opportunities in 2020.
Each year over 200 people have had the opportunity to undertake a work experience placement with us. Work experience can be flexible to meet individual needs, ranging from a few days a week up to four full weeks. Anyone over the age of 14 (year 10 in school) can apply for an unpaid work placement. As one of the largest employers in West Wales in a bilingual county, we can offer bilingual work experience placements.
Work experience provides a chance to come and see how the council works. We have opportunities in many departments, and it’s a great way to get a better idea about what we do in Carmarthenshire County Council – whether it’s working in information technology, sports and leisure, or accountancy.
Because some teams deal with confidential and sensitive information, we cannot provide work experience in every department (for example within children’s or adults social work), but we will do our best to accommodate you if possible.
People come for a period of work experience with us for lots of different reasons, including:
- Having a taste of working within a department before committing to a college course
- Undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh awards as part of their studies
- Getting back into employment after a period of absence
- Gaining good experience to refer to as part of their application process for University/College.
By undertaking work experience in a busy council environment, you can gain valuable skills such as teamwork and communication skills, and it can help you develop your confidence within a working environment.
Every year we have more applications for work experience than we can accommodate, so we ask you to complete an online application form which helps us to find out more about you and match you to the right work experience placement. This form will ask for information such as your preferred dates, location and the type of work you are interested in. Once we have this information, we will try our best to match you with a suitable work experience.
Please note, submitting an application for work experience is not a guarantee of acceptance. Work experience is unpaid, and we are unable to offer expenses.
