Our festive tour continues, after all it is the season to be merry (hic)! We’ve covered 10 Christmas beers so far on our extended look at the ‘12 Beers of Christmas’, taking in beers from Dog’s Window, Bang On Brewery, Little Goat and now it’s the turn of multi award winning Mumbles Brewery, heralding from Swansea. Establised in 2011 and starting life in the back of the Pilot pub in Mumbles, the brewery has achieved great success and won multiple awards. Fresh from winning CAMRA Champion Beer of Wales in the Speciality Category with their Oystermouth Stout they have produced three festive wonders. Two are returning seasonal beers together with a brand new one. You’ll find them round local farmer’s markets in the Swansea area and a number of pubs throughout South Wales or can even order online at their website.
A returning seasonal favourite from Mumbles Brewery. Kiwi Christmas has been brewed especially for the Christmas season. It is Red Ale made with pale malt and generously hopped with two New Zealand hops for a distinctive fruity aroma and taste. A fine balance between the hops and malts give this a deeply satisfying finish.
Another seasonal delight returns, Goldings Balls has been brewed especially for the Winter season. An antidote to heavy ales, this beauty is 5% but so pale and hoppy it feels much lighter. Collaboratively brewed with the Hopcraft Brewery in Pontyclun, it is a blend of New and Old World hops, it is dry hopped, then fermented out to the max!
CHOCOLATE VANILLA PORTER 6.2% abv
Last but not least is a new one from Mumbles. What the name lacks in Christmas inspired puns it more than makes up for in taste and flavour. A winter beer produced using dark malts and plenty of chocolate and vanilla ingredients to give a dark rich flavour and coming in at a hefty 6.2% it’s sure to kick-start your festivities. A dark beer for the dark nights!
Next time Wales Ales will be heading West to our friends at Bluestone Brewery and looking at their Chimney Stack and Stone Cold IPA.
