NPT Pupils stand together for Holocaust Memorial Day/Disgyblion CNPT yn sefyll gyda’i gilydd ar gyfer Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost

School pupils from across Neath Port Talbot will once again hold an evening of remembrance to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and to ensure that lessons from history continue to be learnt.

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is an annual national event which aims not only to remember the victims of genocide but also to explore the circumstances which gave rise to them. It is held on the 27^th January each year, which marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. HMD 2020 also marks the 25^th anniversary of the Genocide in Bosnia

On the evening of the 27^th January 2020 eight schools from across the county borough will come together for an event at Port Talbot’s Princess Royal Theatre to perform dance, song and poetry and to remember the victims of the Holocaust and of subsequent genocides.

Other schools have been involved by entering original artwork and poetry into competitions around this year’s HMD theme: ‘Stand Together’.

Also on stage giving readings at the event will be South Wales Police Youth Volunteers.

In addition a display from West Glamorgan Archives Service will shine a light on the story of Jewish refugees who came to south Wales between 1933 and 1945, and their contribution to Welsh society.

Cllr Peter Rees, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture said: “The Council has proudly supported the Holocaust Memorial Day campaign since it began back in 2001 and it is vital that we continue to remember those who died and to hear the stories of those whose lives have been affected by such atrocities”.

“We are living through a time when it often feels that society is increasingly divided so the message of this year’s theme, to ‘Stand Together’, is very timely”.

“It is important that we do stand together with others in our communities to prevent the spread of discrimination, racism and hatred and to learn the lessons of past horrors”.

The Holocaust Memorial Evening will take place in The Princess Royal Theatre on Monday 27^th January at 6pm. Entry is free and all are welcome

Disgyblion CNPT yn sefyll gyda’i gilydd ar gyfer Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost

 Bydd disgyblion ysgol ar draws Castell-nedd Port Talbot unwaith eto’n cyflwyno noson goffáu i nodi Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost ac i sicrhau bod gwersi o hanes yn cael eu dysgu o hyd.

Mae Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost yn ddigwyddiad blynyddol cenedlaethol i gofio am ddioddefwyr hil-laddiad, ond mae hefyd yn ceisio archwilio i’r amgylchiadau oedd wedi achosi’r digwyddiadau hyn. Cynhelir Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost ar 27 Ionawr bob blwyddyn, sy’n nodi pen-blwydd rhyddhau Auschwitz-Birkenau, gwersyll difa mwyaf y Natsïaid. Mae Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost 2020 hefyd yn nodi 25 mlynedd ers yr hil-laddiad ym Mosnia.

Ar noson y 27 Ionawr 2020 bydd wyth ysgol ledled y fwrdeistref sirol yn dod at ei gilydd ar gyfer digwyddiad yn Theatr y Dywysoges Frenhinol ym Mhort Talbot, i berfformio ar ffurf dawns, cân a barddoniaeth ac i gofio dioddefwyr yr Holocost a hil-laddiadau dilynol.

Mae ysgolion eraill wedi bod yn rhan o’r digwyddiad trwy gyflwyno gwaith celf a barddoniaeth wreiddiol i gystadlaethau ar thema Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost eleni: ‘Sefyll gyda’n gilydd’.

Hefyd bydd Gwirfoddolwyr Ieuenctid Heddlu De Cymru yn rhoi darlleniadau ar y llwyfan yn y digwyddiad..

Yn ychwanegol, bydd arddangosfa gan Wasanaeth Archifau Gorllewin Morgannwg yn tynnu sylw at stori’r ffoaduriaid Iddewig a ddaeth i dde Cymru rhwng 1933 a 1945, a’u cyfraniad i gymunedau Cymru.

Meddai’r Cyng. Peter Rees, Aelod y Cabinet dros Addysg, Sgiliau a Diwylliant, “Rwy’n falch i ddweud bod y cyngor wedi cefnogi ymgyrch Diwrnod Coffáu’r Holocost ers iddi ddechrau yn 2001 ac mae’n hanfodol ein bod yn parhau i gofio’r rhai a fu farw a chlywed straeon y rhai y mae erchyllterau o’r fath wedi effeithio ar eu bywydau”.

“Rydym yn byw mewn cyfnod pan mae’n aml yn teimlo bod cymdeithas yn fwyfwy rhanedig felly mae neges thema eleni, i ‘Sefyll Gyda’n Gilydd’, yn amserol”.

“Mae’n bwysig ein bod yn sefyll gyda’n gilydd yn ein cymunedau er mwyn atal gwahaniaethu, hiliaeth a chasineb ac i ddysgu gwersi o erchyllterau’r gorffennol”.

Cynhelir Noson Coffáu’r Holocost yn Theatr y Dywysoges Frenhinol ym Mhort Talbot ar nos Fercher 27 Chwefror am 6pm. Bydd mynediad am ddim ac mae croeso i bawb .
