Members of XR Carmarthen will be submitting more than 20 questions to the full meeting of Carmarthenshire County Council on Feb 12th 2020. It is one year on from the council’s declaration of a Climate Emergency, so what action has the council taken and what is their plan to get to net carbon zero by 2030?
THIS IS AN EMERGENCY
It was on the 20th Feb 2019 that Carmarthenshire County Council declared a climate emergency and said they would become zero carbon by 2030. This is a fantastic and ambitious plan.
They said they would come up with a zero carbon plan by 12 months and will be presenting that to a full council meeting on the 12th Feb 2020
Extinction Rebellion Carmarthen, Ferryside Climate Matters and Carmarthen School Strikes have been a big part of this process.
We are celebrating all that the Council have done and pushing them to go even further. Members of the public have asked questions of the council and we hope that this zero carbon plan is the start of a greener and more resilient county for us all.
Join us on the 12th June, outside County Hall and Notts square for:
⦁ Peoples assembly – take part in local democracy and have your say about the climate emergency
⦁ As well as workshops in juggling and singing
We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. Life on Earth is in crisis: scientists agree we have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction of our own making. Extinction rebellion is demanding that the government
- Tell the truth -Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.
- Act Now – Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
- Beyond Politics – Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.
