A Carmarthen business owner has taken a step in the right direction and opened her own shop.

Mair Jones, of Esgidiau Cic Shoes, launched her footwear business after benefiting from a Start Up Business Fund grant awarded by Carmarthenshire County Council.

The fund supports the creation of new businesses in the county, resulting directly in the creation of jobs and improving the local economy.

The grant money helped to purchase shop storage, display units, a cash till, signage and website set up costs.

Carmarthenshire County Council Leader, Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “I’m pleased we were able to offer support Esgidiau Cic as part of our ongoing commitment to economic development and supporting businesses. Carmarthenshire’s businesses are a vital part of the economic fabric of the county and as such, it is a priority for us to support those businesses which have ambitions to grow and create jobs.”

Esgidiau Cic stocks children’s footwear and offers a bilingual service to customers at its King Street premises.

Owner Mair Jones said: “Applying for the Carmarthenshire Start Up Business Fund grant start up fund has helped me start up a business I wanted to do for years.  Knowing that there’s help available from the local council and the Focus Hub Enterprise based at Yr Egin was invaluable.  Esgidiau Cic Shoes is now 6 months old and I can’t believe how far we have come so quickly.

Businesses interested in applying for a grant must be looking to create new jobs in order to be eligible. Those interested are asked to contact 01554 748813 or email businessfund@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
