During February, Carmarthenshire County Council will be noting LGBT History Month to positively acknowledge the diversity within our local communities.
In support of the nationally-recognised LGBT History Month, the LGBT rainbow flag will be raised at the council’s main buildings in Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli during the first weekend of February.
LGBT History Month provides the opportunity to highlight and celebrate the lives of LGBT people and their allies, both past and present, within our communities and further afield.
It is also important to recognise our role as a key local employer, in supporting our staff within the workplace.
Cllr Cefin Campbell, Executive Board Member for Equalities, said: “It is important that as an organisation we champion diversity in our workforce and throughout our communities, and LGBT History Month is the perfect opportunity to do so. We are proud to be a Stonewall Diversity Champion organisation and throughout 2020, we will be working on a range of important issues that impact people in our communities through our revised Strategic Equality Plan.”
