After Gotham’s villainous power couple, Joker and Harley Quinn end their relationship, Harley joins new heroes Black Canary, Renee Montoya and Huntress. Together they must save a young sticky-fingered girl from the infamously evil crime lord Roman Sionis aka Black Mask.

This is an entertainingly twisted and crazy story narrated by Harley Quinn throughout the movie. And when Gotham’s most feared villain, Roman, and his most trusted right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, put a bounty on a young girl named Cass, the city is then turned upside down looking for her. When Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya join forces, Roman realises just exactly how much this foursome of girls are capable of.

Now let’s keep in mind, that even though the film title is named birds of prey, (the movie is in fact all about Harley Quinn.) If anyone is going to start whining about the fact that some characters didn’t have enough time on the screen, then personally, I feel that somebody missed something. The Birds of Prey are more of an introductory set of characters. We’re given less so later, we want more from them. This is exactly, what happened with Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg in 2017s Justice League. To expect anything more from these characters in this movie is not realistic as there would be just too much story for the film. So if you think about it, it would make more sense to give them solo movies later.

Now based on performance, I really enjoyed Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Huntress and Black Canary. Huntress gave us the classic origin story which can be moved straight onto a solo film which I imagine would be very entertaining. As for Black Canary, they could probably fit something of an origin tale in there and also make a good solo spin-off.

Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, I personally feel couldn’t have been better. I was a little bit sceptical before the movie, but McGregor seriously plays a good egotistical mad man. I was really entertained throughout the film. And the chemistry between McGregor and Margot Robbie worked so well. I love Robbie as Harlie and can’t see anyone else playing the part.

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quin is full of crazy fun and would be recommended by myself. And if you have any comments, please feel free to tell us your venues on this subject.
