Dear Editor,

Without the staunch support of a passionate team of volunteers our Schools Service team at NSPCC Cymru/Wales would not be able to offer its ‘Speak out. Stay safe.’ programme free of charge to every school in Wales.

The common thread that links our volunteers is their shared desire to keep children safe from harm, and they help us to do that by delivering our safeguarding sessions that educate them in an age-appropriate way about the different kinds of abuse, trusted adults, and our charity’s Childline service.

We’re in need of new volunteers across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire to help us do just that, and reach more children with these important messages.

Many children will not know that what is happening to them is abuse, and with two children in an average classroom experiencing some form of abuse, it’s crucial we empower the next generation and ensure we protect them.

We help start conversations around abuse in an interactive way, and enable teachers to continue that dialogue in the classroom with their pupils.

All of our volunteers are given the training and support they need to feel confident in their role, and we ask that at a minimum they commit to delivering two sessions a month.

Anyone keen to find out more can contact Hayley Gordon on 07710145590 or email volunteerrecruitment@nspcc.org.uk.
