The Children’s Outpatient Centre at Glangwili Hospital has received a new electrocardiogram (ECG) machine thanks to the generosity of a local family.
Dylan and Nia Eynon from Pontyberem started fundraising under the umbrella of Calon Liwsi in 2017 to thank three charities close to their hearts. Dylan and Nia’s 4-year old daughter Liwsi was born with a congenital heart defect and has since undergone two open-heart surgeries. Liwsi has now made a great recovery but her condition is still being monitored closely.
Dad Dylan said: “We have all Liwsi’s outpatient’s appointments at Glangwili Hospital and the care and service we receive is amazing. In 2017 we set up Calon Liwsi to show our appreciation to all the staff for their hard work and commitment. Since 2017 we’re proud to have raised over £40,000 to support three charities that have all been a part of Liwsi’s journey – Hywel Dda Health Charities, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity and Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.
“In July 2019 we organised our second charity ball at the Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli. We raised a fantastic £17,000 and are pleased to be able to donate £7,000 to purchase the ECG machine for the Children’s Centre at Glangwili Hospital”.
“We would like to thank everyone for supporting Calon Liwsi and for helping us to raise a tremendous amount of money to support our chosen charities”.
Janet Millward, Senior Nurse Manager Paediatrics at Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “We are very grateful to receive such a generous donation from Calon Liwsi which has enabled us to purchase an ECG machine. Children and young people who currently attend an outpatient’s appointments with us are escorted to the cardiology department within the main hospital for their ECG tests. Having our own ECG machine within the Children’s Centre will help us to improve the experience of our patients”.
