SUPPORT NATIONAL KIDNEY FUND

Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid & West Wales and Leader of UKIP Wales, joined fellow AM’s on World Kidney Day to show his support for a Welsh charity.

Mr Hamilton, a member of the Senedd’s Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs committee, was backing the work of the Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales, during an event held at the Assembly in Cardiff.

He said:

“I was delighted to demonstrate my support for World Kidney Day once again and, in particular, for the Paul Popham Fund which does such splendid work.  I welcomed the chance to hear how the charity continues to develop and grow.

“Their aim is to help kidney patients lead a better quality of life and the support they give to people is amazing.  A dedicated team runs the fund and we should all help to highlight and promote this deserving cause.

“Approximately 60,000 people in the UK die prematurely every year due to kidney disease and about 1 million people are unaware they have the disease.  It is vital to know the signs and check your health.

“Showcasing its work to raise awareness of chronic kidney disease, in conjunction with World Kidney Day, an annual global event, is an excellent idea and one which I fully support.”

The charity was inaugurated in March 2013 in memory of Paul Popham, who had lived over half his life as a kidney patient but, despite his illness, lead a positive life.

The Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales, was set up to help others who have suffered and to encourage all kidney patients in Wales to lead a positive life.

Its aim is to improve the quality of life of Renal Patients in Wales. This is achieved by working with Units and Centres which treat and specialise in this care and by purchasing items that will directly benefit the Renal Patient’s quality of life.

The Fund, which is managed by a group of Trustees and Support Committee who give up their time for free, has been set-up to keep his legacy alive and support renal patients like him in Wales.
