CCTV footage led police to identify and arrest a Rhondda man who went on a crime spree while sofa surfing in Carmarthen.

Dyfed-Powys Police officers swiftly identified prolific offender Martin Clee, from Mountain Ash, as a suspect while investigating a burglary at The Tea Shop in Carmarthen on March 3.

Numerous enquiries were carried out as officers attempted to locate the 34-year-old, who was moving around friends’ homes in the town, but he could not be found.

A second burglary was reported at Alliance Therapy on March 14, where money was stolen. Once again, Clee appeared on CCTV footage from the scene.

Arrest enquiries led officers to find a bag belonging to Clee, which contained items taken from a car.

It was also discovered that Clee was driving a Ford KA, which targeting team officers spotted in Station Road, Llanelli, yesterday (March 17).

The suspect was seen getting out of the car, and was arrested. On being searched by officers, he produced amphetamine – a class B drug.

He was charged with six offences – two counts of burglary, handling stolen goods, two driving offences, and possession of a class B drug – and remanded to appear at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.

He admitted all six offences, and will be sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on April 13.

Detective Sergeant Owen Lock said: “This is an excellent example of numerous departments and teams working together to secure charges against a prolific offender.

“We hope this investigation goes to show our determination to pursue offenders who come into our force area to commit offences.”
