Residents in Llandovery and the surrounding area are being informed that the town’s Minor Injuries Unit will temporarily close to allow GPs and clinical staff to manage patients in the most appropriate way for their need.

The service, which is run with support from local GPs, will close from today (Thursday 19 March) and anyone that needs minor injuries care locally, if urgent, is asked to attend Glangwili General Hospital provided they are not displaying signs of COVID-19.

Rhian Dawson, County Director for Carmarthenshire, said: “As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak in Hywel Dda we have decided to take the joint decision with our GP partners to temporarily close the Minor Injuries Unit in Llandovery, which will allow us to release medical staff for other duties.  I would like to reassure local communities that this decision is strictly time limited and we will aim to reopen the unit as soon as we are able.”

Dr John Rees, from Llanfair Surgery, added: “The GP partners fully support this decision by Hywel Dda in the interests of clinical planning and safety.  We would like to ask that all patients phone the GP practice rather than attend in person, so that we can make sure they are triaged appropriately and provided with the best care possible.”
