NSPCC responds as Royal Assent granted for the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill

This morning the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill received Royal Assent as confirmed by the Welsh Government on its website.

NSPCC Cymru/Wales issues the following statement.

Cecile Gwilym, Policy & Public Affairs Manager for NSPCC Cymru / Wales says: “Significant steps are being made to ensure children in Wales get the equal protection under assault law that they undoubtedly deserve – the latest being Royal Assent to the suggested legislative changes.

“The Welsh Government must now continue to push onward to embed these changes. We will continue to work with them on this, and support parents, carers and guardians with our Take 5 campaign that stresses the importance of remaining calm in those hard situations, and top tips on how to do so.”
