Action for Children’s Flying Start nursery services in Bridgend are going the extra mile to deliver emergency childcare for key workers across Bridgend during the coronavirus crisis.

Liaising closely with Bridgend Council, the team has been working to keep emergency childcare open for 10 hours a day for key workers such as nurses, doctors, police officers and shop workers.

Beth Davies, practice team leader at Bridgend Flying Start, said: ‘Staff have responded fantastically to the crisis that has affected everyone in the community. As soon as the nurseries were closed on March 20th, staff were redeployed to provide emergency childcare for key workers.

‘Staff who aren’t self-isolating are working much later shifts and have even volunteered to work weekends and the Easter holidays. We’re doing everything possible to ensure we can give the workers the whole country is relying on one less thing to worry about at this terrible time. They are now very much, key workers themselves and this dedicated team is passionate about doing our bit to help.’

Action for Children has also launched a UK-wide emergency appeal. The charity works with some of the most vulnerable children and families across the UK. With 476 services in communities across the country, Action for Children helps more than 387,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers a year.

The charity is supporting families to cover the cost of basic essentials such as food, nappies, cleaning products and gas and electricity. To support the emergency coronavirus appeal which will help families cover the cost of the basics, please visit actionforchildren.org.uk, call 0300 123 2112 or text ACTION to 70175 to give £10.
