Reacting to First Minister Mark Drakeford’s announcement that Welsh Government are going to put into law a 2-metre social distancing requirement in the workplace, Wales TUC General Secretary Shavanah Taj said:
“We strongly welcome the Welsh Government’s plan to legislate on the 2-metre social distancing requirement in the workplace. This is a step further than any other part of the UK and will make Welsh workplaces safer as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The next step will be enforcing it – making sure that people know they’ve got a right to demand that their employer takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the 2 metre rule is being practiced. It’s essential that this is communicated as widely as possible. Unions will work with Welsh Government and others to deliver this.
“No one should have to endanger their own life and put their families and the wider community at risk of the virus spreading. That is why we’ve launched an online whistleblowing form for people who have health and safety concerns, so we can protect workers’ rights to safe workplaces”.
