Responding to praise for councils for ensuring the vast majority of parks are open for their communities from Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick, Cllr James Jamieson, Chairman of the Local Government Association, said:

“Councils know that visiting a park can have a positive impact on physical and mental wellbeing during this difficult time.

“They have worked hard to try and keep services running during this crisis, including keeping access to green spaces and cemeteries open for their residents.

“Councils need residents to work with them when using parks and cemeteries.

“It is important that the public continue to abide by the Government’s social distancing rules to ensure people are not put at risk unnecessarily.”
