Neath Port Talbot Council’s Fostering Team is appealing to people to consider becoming a foster carer during their time in isolation.

The appeal coincides with this year’s Foster Care Fortnight campaign that starts today (Monday 11th May). The annual campaign is delivered by the Fostering Network charity to raise awareness of how fostering can transform lives.

Throughout the two weeks, the team will be using social media to share stories from local foster carers in the form of photos, videos and animations. Plus, they will be releasing a podcast featuring a member of their team talking about the role of a foster carer.

Councillor Alan Lockyer, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services, said:

“I’d like to say a big thank you to our foster carers for everything they’re doing for their foster children in these challenging times.

“We are always looking for new carers who have the desire to provide a secure and welcoming home for vulnerable children. This could include people from a wide range of backgrounds and family make-up such as people who are single, families with children or same sex couples.

“I would urge anyone who is thinking about becoming a foster carer to contact the team.”

There are many different types of fostering, including short term, long term and providing breaks for other carers and families; and people can choose what is right for them and their family. All foster carers in Neath Port Talbot receive generous allowances, training and support from a dedicated and experienced team.

To follow the campaign during the next two weeks, use the hashtag #FCF20 or view the team’s Facebook page, @FosteringNPT.
