This Foster Care Fortnight a big heartfelt thank you is going out to all Carmarthenshire foster carers for everything they do to help our most vulnerable children, particularly now during this coronavirus pandemic.

Foster Care Fortnight is taking place between May 11 – 24 and the council wants to pay tribute to all its amazing foster carers for the continued care and support they are providing to our children and young people.

As well as clapping for our wonderful NHS staff and all the other key workers that are going above and beyond the call of duty, we will also be clapping for our foster carers.

Executive Board Member for Education and Children Cllr Glynog Davies said: “Our foster carers are truly amazing, and continue to be so throughout this crisis.

“We want to show our appreciation and gratitude for everything they do. Being a foster carer is not an easy job, but it is extremely rewarding, and it really does change a young person’s life.

“So, to all our amazing foster carers thank you, we clap for you and I hope everyone else will join us and clap for you and the remarkable job you do.”

The aim of Foster Care Fortnight is to raise awareness of and celebrate the transformational power of fostering.

The campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers and also highlights the need for more foster carers.

Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, particularly older children, sibling groups, disabled children and asylum-seeking children.

During Foster Care Fortnight, the council’s fostering team can usually be seen out and about in Carmarthenshire with mascot Cal the Bear, organising lots of different events and activities to get involved with.

This year, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the team will be focusing its activities online, but there are still lots of ways to get involved. Look out and share social media posts, visit the website and help spread the message to family and friends.
