Concern over impact of Immigration Bill on Care Homes and Key Services

Alistair Cameron, Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd Candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, has raised grave concerns that the Immigration Bill, which Westminster MPs have voted for by a majority of 99, will have a severe impact on social care and key services including our care homes which are already struggling with the Covid pandemic.

The Bill will prevent many overseas workers (including those we clap for every week) from settling here and contributing to our society.

 Alistair said:

“Overseas workers play a key role in our social care services including domiciliary care and care homes as well as other key services. These services are vital in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and they are under immense pressure with the Covid Crisis. The last thing we should be doing is to make it more difficult for key workers from overseas to work here.

“Every week we are happy to clap in support of our care workers, health workers and other key workers. However, the Immigration Bill classifies these workers as “unskilled”. This is frankly insulting to people who look after some of our most vulnerable residents.”
