The Carmarthenshire LGBTQ+ Project has secured funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to create a ‘Digital Library’.
The Digital Library will be available to all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies in Carmarthenshire. Project Coordinator Alexander Bryant-Evans says:
“The lockdown implemented as a response to COVID-19 has prevented any social and support gatherings, including coffee mornings and social evenings from continuing. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies relied on these gatherings for support and safe spaces for them to be themselves and meet others in the community.”
Alexander continues:
“The Carmarthenshire LGBTQ+ Project has recognised that many of these services and social groups have moved online in the wake of the pandemic, with the project even forming some virtual social and supportive hubs of it’s own. This is great to see, however there are many people across the county who do not have the equipment or a reliable internet connection to access these online services and spaces, as highlighted in a recent survey conducted by the Carmarthenshire LGBTQ+ Project.”
The Digital Library was created so people could loan IT equipment such as Chromebooks, Andorid tablets and portable WiFi systems (MiFi) to be able to access the online services and spaces. Members of the community would be able to loan the equipment for a set period, for free.
