Pets break lockdown in Dominic Cummings-style escape
Local photographer and animal lover Christabel Linn from Risca usually takes photos of much loved pets and their owners for her day job at Christabel Photography, but finding her business on ‘paws’ during lockdown meant she had to think even more creatively about how she could still work.
With her two rescue dogs from South Wales Rescue Many Tears, Christabel decided to create a humorous photo of them ‘breaking lockdown’.
“My rescue dogs Bella and Donnie saw the coverage of Dominic Cummings over the last week and thought, if he can travel to local beauty spots then why can’t we’, she said. With careful behind the scenes posing, Christabel created an image that resonated with many people and posted it on her Facebook account.
“I was so pleased with the result and people started contacting me and asking me if they could send me their photos and could I do the same for them, and I realised that with the right type of photos, I could make the photo perfect for each person. Since then the first customer posted the results to the Many Tears group on Facebook and many more people are coming forward.
“It’s just a really fun way to try and work during these tough times, doing what I do best. I love being creative and working to help people have lovely photos of their pets. I am now working on a whole series of pawtraits and scenes for people to choose and have even been commissioned to design a funny Christmas card for a customer, to feature her pets.
“My business was on hold but I have been able to relook at how I can try and work around the situation and I really enjoy creating these scenes. My customers are getting such pleasure from the photos too; it’s been a really positive experience.”
Christabel donates some of each fee to Many Tears and the rescue centre is at the heart of her work. Most of the pets featured have come from the rescue, and Christabel is also a fosterer for the charity and has fostered more than 85 dogs over the last 12 years.
