“We welcome Welsh Government’s announcement that face coverings should be worn where social distancing is not possible. This has been a key ask from trades unions in public transport in particular, where Welsh Government should follow the UK and make it mandatory.”
“To help public transport users adjust, Welsh Government could work with manufacturers in Wales to pilot temporary distribution of free face coverings if needed”.
“However, it’s critical that this message doesn’t distract from the fact that all employers should be conducting appropriate workplace health and safety risk assessments to decide whether social distancing measures can be introduced in the first place. Individual risk assessments should also be conducted. PPE is always the last resort when managing risks so should only be used when other measures aren’t possible.”
