Dear Editor,
Since the lockdown began, life has been strange and difficult for almost everyone, but in particular for vulnerable children who are struggling with their mental health or are at risk from abuse or neglect. Childline is providing a vital lifeline to young people who are trying to cope with the fear, anxiety and distress caused by the pandemic.
More than half of all counselling sessions delivered by Childline volunteers to children in Wales during April related to mental health, suicidal thoughts and feelings and self-harm.
Weâre asking people across Wales to help us be here for more children by supporting the NSPCCâs third Childhood Day, which is taking place on Friday 26 June 2020.
âBe a big kidâ to help us raise crucial funds by organising a childhood themed quiz night, getting sponsored to dress up for the day or holding a mini sports day in your back garden – in all cases remembering to follow the latest social distancing rules.
Donating ÂŁ24 could pay for trained counsellors in our Childline bases to answer six childrenâs calls for help.
There are lots more ideas on how to get involved and suggestions for fun events on our website www.nspcc.org.uk/childhoodday.
