Since start of the coronavirus outbreak, Neath Port Talbot Council has been working alongside local councillors, volunteers and key partner organisations in the community to support its most vulnerable residents.

The NPT Safe and Well service has been set up to ensure those who are shielding or self-isolating are able to access support with daily living tasks if they have nobody to call on for help. Carers who are supporting those who are shielding or self-isolating can also access the service.

The service has released information to show the support it has provided since launching and what is currently being provided on a weekly basis:

  • Picking up and delivering 400+ medical prescriptions per week
  • Delivering 450+ emergency food parcels per week
  • Registered 550+ volunteers to support the service
  • Made 500+ welfare phone calls to check-in with people shielding and continuing to make more.
  • Supported 1000+ residents with daily living tasks

Councillor Rob Jones, Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, said:

“These numbers show the size of the task we’ve had to deal with since the outbreak of the coronavirus.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our staff who have been redeployed, councillors, volunteers and our partner organisations in the community. Everyone has pulled together to tackle the virus and ensure those who are most vulnerable are given the support they need.”

Neath Port Talbot Council’s NPT Safe and Well Service is delivered in partnership with Age Connects, NPT CVS, Tai Tarian, Coastal Housing, Pobl, Age Concern, Canolfan Maerdy, Care and Repair, RADAR and also the many Covid-19 community groups that have formed across the county borough since the start of the outbreak.
