In reaction to Lee Waters MS, the Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport, announcement of £15.4 million funding for local authorities to build sustainable transport measures in response to Covid 19, including temporary cycle lanes and street closures around schools, national charity Cycling UK’s engagement officer in Wales, Gwenda Owen said:
“It’s fantastic that that Local Authorities across Wales have successfully secured funds for temporary infrastructure and other measures to enable people to travel safely as we ease out of lockdown.
“Pop up cycle lanes, street closures around schools and speed limits are just some of the interventions that will enable more people to walk and cycle whilst maintain social distance, and feel confident doing so.
“Local Authorities have to use this opportunity to evaluate what works, identifying on the integrated network maps their developing where active travel routes are most needed.”
