Staff and councillors at Carmarthenshire County Council have paid tribute to a former work colleague who passed away recently.
Executive Board Member for Social Services and Health, Cllr Jane Tremlett, praised Anthony Maynard for his unrivalled commitment to championing the cause for vulnerable adults and children.
Director of Communities, Jake Morgan, also praised the former head of service for mental health and wellbeing for his commitment to his role and said the 59-year-old had inspired many generations of social workers and care staff.
Council staff, residents and people from the sporting world turned out to line the funeral route yesterday to pay their respects.
Anthony was a qualified social worker who had worked with vulnerable children in Carmarthenshire since the 1980’s. He rose through the ranks rapidly ending his time in Carmarthenshire as the Head of Service for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities two years ago to take up a post at Pembrokeshire County Council as Head of Children’s Services.
Jake Morgan said: “I had the privilege to work with Anthony for the last 15 years as a colleague and a friend. The council owes a great debt to him for the impact he had on services for the most vulnerable in our community. Anthony was a person who connected with people and inspired generations of social workers and care staff with his integrity, loyalty and passion for his work. His humour and willingness to go the extra mile, together with an ability to connect with people from all backgrounds, will mean he will be truly missed by all those in West Wales who had the pleasure to work with him. A family man through and through, with great pride in the achievement of his sons. Our thoughts go out to Sian, Tom, Scott and Jack at this very difficult time.”
Anthony’s sense of humour and commitment will be missed by all those who worked with him, said Cllr Jane Tremlett.
“In a long and successful career with us Anthony showed an unrivalled commitment to championing the cause for vulnerable Adults and children. He did so with drive, passion, demonstrating integrity in all that he did,” she said.
