15 School Holiday Attractions to Beat the Boredom

Summer holidays will soon be here and that means parents across the country will be racking their brains for clever ideas to keep their kids entertained over the break.

As many attractions across the UK reveal their reopening dates following the announcement of the easing of lockdown restrictions. LuggageHero has provided the ultimate guide for cultural things to do together to make long-lasting memories.

 

1. Flamingo Land, Yorkshire

 

Yorkshire’s iconic theme park attraction is welcoming visitors once again. With new safety measures in place, the resort is allowing guests the opportunity to visit the much-loved Zoo – but restricted to outdoor exhibits only, for the safety of visitors. Limited tickets and new measures mean everyone will have to pre-book before entering the park.

 

2. Jorvik Viking Centre, York

 

Jorvik Viking Centre will reopen on Saturday 11th July with new health and safety measures in place, for the protection of visitors and staff. A restricted number of entries will be allowed at each given time so that groups can remain at least 2 metres apart. If you are planning a visit to Jorvik Centre tickets must be pre-booked online before arrival.

 

3. Babbacombe Model Village, Torquay

 

Devon’s very own miniature landscape village is back open for business from the 4th of July, where kids can feel like giants as they step through the small town of model scenes, vehicles and people. Extensive measures have been taken to ensure visits are enjoyable but safe to protect staff and customers, hand gel stations are available and prebooking is advised.

 

4. Colchester Zoo, Heckfordbridge

 

Zoos across the country were given the green light to reopen from June 15th, making them a hot spot for family visits. Tickets to Colchester Zoo must be purchased online up to 10 days in advance and with limited capacity, planning in advance is essential to avoid disappointment.

 

5. Warwick Castle, Warwick

 

Following the latest government announcement, Warwick Castle is set to open its doors to visitors from 4th July. Additional hygiene and safety measures have been put in place to make your visit to the castle safe, from enhanced cleaning regimes, one way systems and social distance measures to prebooked tickets required.

 

6. Forbidden Corner, North Yorkshire

 

The unique spot for adventure is back open for business from the 4th July, entry is restricted to pre-booked tickets only. Kids can explore the weird and wonderful gardens of The Forbidden Corner, and discover the tails of its residents once again – the park has implemented several measures to make your visit safe.

 

7. Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley

 

Extensive measures have been taken to make sure a visit to Cannon Hall Farm is enjoyable as always and safe as possible for visitors and staff. The farm is back open from June 30th to all guests but pre-booking online is required, visitors will still have access to the farms animal barns and outdoor play areas but tractor rides are off-limit, for now!

 

8. Stuart Line Cruises, Devon

 

Stuart Line Cruises are back sailing again from the 4th July, with reduced passenger numbers, waiter service onboard, hand sanitiser available and social distancing in place. Even on the coldest of days, you can enjoy the live commentary and get up close and personal with the marine life on your adventure. Pre-book tickets here.

 

9. Legoland, Windsor

 

The team at LegoLand are excited to invite families back into the park after weeks of closure but expect new safety measures in place to keep you and your little ones safe. Temperature checks, floors markings, seat spacing on rides and frequent cleaning is just a few of the things put in place – pre-book tickets online in advance.

 

10. Eden Project, Bodelva

 

Eden projects Outdoor Gardens, Rainforest, Mediterranean biomes and Core Education centre are all now open to visitors from the 4th July. With limited visitor restrictions, guests must book online to secure a time slot The Eden team has worked together on a range of new measures to ensure the safety of guests, plus free entry for NHS and care workers!

 

11. Stonehenge, Wiltshire

 

Take in unforgetting scenery and bring learning to life at the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. Limits to visitor numbers have been introduced to help keep you safe and booking online is required before arrival.

 

12. Zipworld, Wales

 

From the 6th July Zipworld’s amazing adventures are back available to visitors, including FForest Coaster, Quarry Karts and Big Red zip line. There is so much to see and do for the whole family, rides available for both the big kids and little kids – but book online before arrival to avoid disappointment.

 

13. Warwick Castle, Warwick

 

Your little explorers will love discovering the tails of the medieval castle, stepping back in time in the Great Hall and experiencing the UK’s biggest Bird of Prey show. The Falconer’s Quest! With plenty of green space, families can enjoy a nice trip out while maintaining a safe distance – available from July 4th when pre-booked online.

 

14. Fort Douglas, Scotland 

 

Adventures are back at Fort Douglas park from 30th June! Alongside the reopening of the park, the onsite Food and Drink Cabin is open to visitors using contactless payment only. The park has put in new measures to ensure the safety of families, including pre-booking requirements to monitor park numbers and social distancing.

 

15. DiggerLand, Kent, Devon, Durham, Yorkshire 

 

1. From the 11th July, your little workers are allowed to enter the gates of DiggerLand, with new health and safety measures in place for their protection and yours! Safari rides, Go-karts and train rides are all available for your visit to DiggerLand. Pre-book online here.
