With the effects of the Climate Emergency beginning to take hold around the world, residents from Llanelli have been working with their local MP, Nia Griffith, to see what can be done locally to make their own communities as green as possible.
Next week, they will be stepping up efforts by holding an online conference to share ideas on schemes and projects for Llanelli that will help families, businesses and other groups lead the way in creating a more sustainable, eco-friendly town.
Taking place on Tuesday, 4th August 2020 at 7pm, the âGreen Llanelli â think global, act localâ virtual meeting will discuss ways of enhancing and protecting the areaâs wildlife and natural landscape, meeting ambitious targets that will lead towards zero carbon and how to encourage more people to live in an environmentally friendly way.
Llanelli MP, Nia Griffith, said
âWhilst COVID-19 has understandably dominated recent headlines, the greatest challenge of our times remains the Climate Emergency. We have a unique opportunity now to create a fairer, green recovery, transforming our economy and lifestyles in a way that helps and works alongside the environment rather than damaging it.â
âMany residents are keen to see action on a local scale as well as a global one and this conference will give anyone who wants to participate in it a chance to see best practice, have an informed and passionate debate and discuss what can be done on the ground here in Llanelli.â
âI am looking forward to the online meeting and hearing about what is already going on across Wales and elsewhere to tackle the Climate Emergency and how we can do the same in and around Llanelli.â
