Don’t lose your voice – residents in NPT urged to look out for their voter registration details from Neath Port Talbot Council

The annual canvass of eligible voters is now underway, with 14 to 16-year-olds and qualifying foreign citizens able to register to vote for the first time.

Local residents are being warned not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their electoral registration details are up to date.

With elections taking place in Neath Port Talbot in May 2021, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.

The annual canvass ensures that Neath Port Talbot Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.They would then be able take part in any future elections.

This includes the newly enfranchised. Next year’s Senedd elections will be the first time 16-17 year olds and qualifying foreign citizens will be able to vote. It is therefore very important to capture these groups of people in the electoral register. Don’t forget – 14 and 15 year olds are also now able to register to vote, but will only be able to vote in Senedd Elections once they have turned 16, in the meantime they will remain inactive on the register.

Mr. Steven Phillips, Electoral Registration Officer at Neath Port Talbot Council said:

“It’s important that residents keep an eye out for messages from Neath Port Talbot Council so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Neath Port Talbot. To make sure you are able to have your say at the Senedd and Police & Crime Commissioner Elections in May 2021, simply follow the instructions from your local authority.

“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the messages we send. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post.”

People who have moved recently are particularly encouraged to look out for the voter registration messages from Neath Port Talbot Council and check the details. Research by the Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time. Across Great Britain, 92% of people who have been at their property for more than sixteen years will be registered, compared to 36% of people who have lived at an address for less than one year.

“It’s really important that everyone who is entitled to vote is able to do so. More people are now entitled to vote in Wales, including 16-17 year olds and qualifying foreign citizens. Making sure you provide the necessary information to your local authority when it is needed will ensure the process runs smoothly. This is particularly helpful in the current public health situation, as it will help avoid the need for home visits from canvassers.

Peidiwch â cholli’ch llais – anogir trigolion yn CnPT i gadw golwg ar y post am eu manylion cofrestru pleidleisio oddi wrth Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot

Mae’r canfas blynyddon o pleidleiswyr cymwys wedi dechrau gyda 14 i 16 oed a dinasyddion tramor yn nawr gallu cofrestru i bleidleisio am y tro gyntaf.

Mae trigolion lleol yn cael eu rhybuddio i beidio â cholli eu llais ar benderfyniadau sy’n effeithio arnyn nhw trwy sicrhau bod eu manylion cofrestru etholiadol yn gyfredol.

Gydag etholiadau lleol yn cael eu cynnal yn Castell-nedd Port Talbot ym mis Mai 2021, dyma gyfle pwysig i drigolion sicrhau eu bod yn gallu cymryd rhan.

Mae’r canfasiad blynyddol yn sicrhau bod Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot yn gallu cadw’r gofrestr etholiadol yn gyfredol, a chanfod unrhyw drigolion nad ydynt wedi’u cofrestru fel y gellir eu hannog i wneud hynny. Byddant wedyn yn gallu cymryd rhan mewn unrhyw etholiadau yn y dyfodol.

Mae hyn yn cynnwys y bobl hynny sydd newydd eu rhyddfreinio. Etholiadau Senedd y flwyddyn nesaf fydd y tro cyntaf i bobl ifanc 16-17 oed a dinasyddion tramor cymwys allu pleidleisio. Felly mae’n bwysig iawn dal y grwpiau hyn yn y gofrestr etholiadol. Peidwch anghofio – mae 14 a 15 oed yn nawr gallu gofrestru i bleidleisio, ond byddwn ddim gallu pleidleisio yn Etholiadau y Senedd tan bod nhw wedi troi yn 16, yn y cyfamser byddwn yn sefyll yn anweithgar ar y cofrestr.

Dywedodd Mr. Steven Phillips, Swyddog Cofrestru Etholiadol yn Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot hyn:

“Mae’n bwysig bod preswylwyr yn edrych am negeseuon gan Cyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot, fel y gallwn sicrhau bod gennym y manylion cywir ar y gofrestr etholiadol ar gyfer pob cyfeiriad yn Castell-nedd Port Talbot. Er mwyn sicrhau eich bod chi’n gallu dweud eich dweud mewn etholiadau y Senedd a Comisiynwyr yr Heddlu a Throseddu, dilynwch y cyfarwyddiadau gan eich awdurdod lleol.

“Os nad ydych wedi cofrestru ar hyn o bryd, ni fydd eich enw yn ymddangos yn y negeseuon a anfonwn. Os ydych am gofrestru, y ffordd rwyddaf yw mynd ar-lein i www.gov.uk/cofrestru-i-bleidleisio, neu byddwn yn anfon gwybodaeth atoch yn esbonio sut i wneud hyn drwy’r post. Anogir pobl sydd wedi symud yn ddiweddar i gadw llygad am y negeseuon cofrestru pleidleiswyr gan Gyngor Castell-nedd Port Talbot a gwirio’r manylion. Mae ymchwil gan y Comisiwn Etholiadol yn nodi bod y rhai sydd wedi symud tŷ yn ddiweddar yn llawer llai tebygol o fod wedi’u cofrestru na’r rheiny sydd wedi byw yn yr un cyfeiriad am amser hir. Dangosodd yr ymchwil fod 92% o bobl ledled Prydain Fawr sydd wedi bod yn eu heiddo am fwy nag un flwyddyn ar bymtheg wedi’u cofrestru, o gymharu â 36% o bobl sydd wedi byw mewn cyfeiriad am lai na blwyddyn.
