This bank holiday, mindful drinking movement Club Soda and HEINEKEN UK are urging drivers in Wales to ask venues about the ranges of alcohol-free beers and ciders they have on offer, following new research that reveals over half (55%) of all drivers would reconsider their choice of pub based on its range of non-alcoholic beverages.

With millions of Brits expected to drive to country pubs with beer gardens in places like Wales, the research suggests drivers under the age of 34 are more likely to visit a venue based on its range of alcohol-free beers and ciders (38%) compared to one in five (20%) of those aged 34 and over.

To help drivers identify suitable pubs and bars this bank holiday in Wales, the Club Soda Guide is available – an interactive website that allows users to find the best low and no-alcohol ranges by location

Simply enter the postcode of the location you are travelling to such as Wales, and you’ll be served a host of relevant pubs and bars all serving alcohol-free beverages such as HEINEKEN0.0 and Old Mout Berries & Cherries Alcohol-Free Cider; a refreshing pint certainly isn’t out of the question this Bank Holiday.

Since non-alcoholic beverages are included in the UK government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme there has never been a better time to try an alcohol-free drink in pubs in Wales.

Laura Willoughby MBE, Club Soda founder, said:“ The idea that there is nothing to drink if you are a driver is no longer true. We want the designated driver to use this bank holiday to explore what pubs now have on offer. Over the last two years, pubs have changed dramatically, providing more options suitable for both drivers and those looking to be more mindful with their drinking, meaning you no longer have the compromise with a traditional soft drink.”

Since 2017, HEINEKEN UK has worked closely with Club Soda to help drinkers make moderate choices whilst developing great-tasting low and non-alcoholic beers and ciders.

Angela Appleton, Senior Brand Manager for HEINEKEN UK’s low and no alcohol beers and ciders, adds: “There’s nothing like a deliciously cold pint of beer in a country pub, but if you’re the designated driver, it’s sometimes hard to get a good alternative. With the Club Soda Guide, it’s really easy to see where you can get alcohol-free beer or cider, which is a win for anyone moderating or driving to the pub this holiday weekend.”

A few of the UK’s favourite non-alcoholic choices:

  • The UK’s number one alcohol free beer, Heineken 0.0, is a great-tasting, guilt-free alternative to the real thing and has 69 calories per bottle
    • Look out for Heineken 0.0 in bottle or on draught, one of the only non-alcoholic pint options available in the UK
  • If you’re after a fruitier option, Old Mout Berries & Cherries Alcohol-Free cider has a special blend of ripe berries and a refreshing burst of juicy apple – delicious over ice on a hot day

If you’re planning on a mini-break this weekend to Wales or simply searching for a local pub or bar serving a wide range of alcohol-free drinks, then head to Mindful Drinking Group Club Soda’s website for further information: http://clubsodaguide.com/
