Gorseinon CC triumph over Ammanford CC

Gorseinon triumph !

Ammanford CC entertained Gorseinon CC in this 25 overs friendly contest at Ammanford Park this afternoon. The weather was part Sun and cloud with a distinct cooler feel than of late.

Alun Evans Captain of Ammanford won the toss and invited Greg Fisher’s Gorseinon team to bat first.

Both teams had a very youthful look to them apart from a few old hands. Gorseinon handed 13 year old John Mann his first eleven debut today which was remarkable as he would be playing alongside his brother who himself is only 15 years old, Jamie Mann.

Captain Greg Fisher and team mates welcomed their new debutant before the game. Ammanford took the field of play with Captain Alun Evans doubling up as his team’s wicket keeper for this game.

So the scene was set, as the Gorseinon openers of Howells and Abdullah headed out followed by the umpires

Gorseinon’s openers made a good start and the partnership reached 34 before Kieran Howells lofted a shot which was caught in the deep by Rhys-Huw Davies off the bowling of Matthew Davies for a brisk 28. With the score on 77 fellow opener Abdullah Rahimi was trapped leg before by Josef Davies for 26.

Kieran Morgan took strike and hit an unbeaten 61 and was ably supported by Chris Morgan who made 13 before caught by Elis Richards off the bowling of Callum Croft.

Captain Greg Fisher pushed the pace of the innings in the final overs making an unbeaten 18 to help his team reach 165 for 3.

However a revised target was set using the Duckworth/Lewis formula which meant that Ammanford had to chase down a total of 221 from 25 overs.

Despite an unbeaten knock of 31 from Rhys-Huw Davies and 22 from Captain Alun Evans Ammanford could only muster 121 for 6 after the 25 overs. John Mann did made his mark on the game by having Callum Croft stumped off his bowling. So it was the visitors day , winning this friendly game by 44 runs. But for the younger players of both teams it was more valuable development of their cricketing careers.
