The Internal Markets Bill has been published, confirming that the Government wants ministers to have powers over state aid in Northern Ireland.

It is being seen by the EU as a clear attempt to override the Withdrawal Agreement signed only months ago.

Commenting, Best for Britain CEO Naomi Smith said:

“Instead of delivering a comprehensive trade deal as Boris Johnson promised, the Government appears to be deliberately sabotaging the entire EU-UK talks process.

“This bill is the very worst version of everything that has been reported, and gives ministers the power to define both state aid and to which goods the protocol will apply.

“As things stand, when Britain separates from the EU on January 1st, there is now a substantial risk that, overnight, we will go from being senior partners in the most successful trading bloc in the world to junior players in the mother of all trade wars.”
