Bristol Street Motors have used the cost of each road per mile to calculate the total cost of the most expensive abandoned roads in Wales. They found that Wales alone would have wasted an eye-watering £5.04m if those abandoned roads had been built today. Wales is home to two abandoned roads that are in the top 20 longest abandoned roads in the UK.

Methodology: To find out the cost of constructing a single road lane, Bristol Street Motors averaged out the cost per additional lane mile for 8 road projects in the UK since 2017.
Both Welsh roads lie dormant as a result of progression for other roads in Wales:
- Once the M4 was extended throughout the area in Neath, there was no longer use for the A48.
- The A483 was abandoned in the 70s to allow dualling and construction of a junction.
