Daytime Sing & Smile sessions for the Golden-Oldies Charity are a big hit with hundreds of older people living across Swansea and Carmarthenshire. Following the enforced closure of all sessions in March the charity introduced twice weekly ONLINE sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays led by Rachel Parry and Cheryl Davies – two of the popular Goldies session leaders.
Based on the successful Goldies formula, the online sessions feature the popular memory-evoking songs of the 60s and onwards with words on screen and the ability to enjoy at home through the freely accessible YouTube recordings.
On Tuesday October 6 the session, led by Rachel, will include an ‘appearance’ by Bill Savage. Bill is one of the popular leaders of the Goldies sessions across Swansea and Carmarthenshire and he will be sending a personal message to all of the folk who enjoy and participate in his sessions, prior to lockdown.
Said Bill;
“We are all looking forward to, and hoping that one day soon, our daytime sessions across the area will start again and I know from so many personal messages that songs and smiles are being missed by so many people.
“Through the online twice weekly sessions we are trying to bridge that gap and I was delighted to contribute to Rachel’s fun ‘sofasing’ on Tuesday 6.”
The session is dedicated to Doris Day and her music. There will also be a dedication film from Rachel for Michael Ball and Karen Burris.
On Thursday October 8 the afternoon session, led by Cheryl, will be dedicated to all our ABBA fans with a tribute to Anna and Mary Tamburello. Mary wrote to us to say;
“Thank you Rachel and Cheryl for your excellent sessions. I watch with my sister in law Anna who has downs and dementia. She is 57. Music is the way I have always kept her engaged. Before lockdown we went to Upbeat and Goldies at Rhyd-y-Penau, Cardiff. Your sessions stimulate Anna though her condition is deteriorating. Her favourite song is Quando Quando by Englebert and she used to perform this at Upbeat every week before lockdown. Any chance of you including this song? We play mamma Mia and ABBA songs every day and she also likes Tom Jones. Thanks for everything. I play the sessions to her each evening before she goes to bed.”
