A Bridgend football club and a group of Carmarthenshire farmers helping the local community through the Covid-19 crisis have been handed cash donations from a leading housebuilder.
Broadlands Football Club has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes West Wales for its Community Development Project, which helps young people in the area fulfil their potential.
Carmarthenshire Young Farmers, meanwhile, has received the same amount to help the group continue its good work of shopping and collecting medication for vulnerable people in the community.
The donations are part of Persimmon Homes’ long-running Community Champions scheme, which sees the builder donate up to £1,000 each to two groups in each of its 31 operating areas.
Rachel Gavin, of Broadlands Football Club, said: “This money is a tremendous boost to the club.
“Through our Community Development Project, we aim to connect communities by building bridges between marginalised groups and mainstream society, enabling individuals to reach their potential.
“We are creating ways of tackling entrenched social issues through grassroots sports, health, wellbeing and education.
“We’re forged links with local professionals and businesses as well as education establishments to deliver education and development on and off the field.
“We have a target of £15,000 to achieve the facilities to drive the youth programmes going forward – and this money is a great help.”
Rhodri Lewis, of Carmarthenshire Young Farmers, said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised by Persimmon Homes and receive this funding.
“We’re a youth movement that provides opportunities to 800 members between the ages of 10 and 26 that live in Carmarthenshire.
“There are 23 Young Farmers clubs in Carmarthenshire that are run by young people for young people. From April our members have been busy helping out in the local community by assisting with shopping and collecting medication for individuals.
“It’s been a fantastic thing to be involved in, and this £1,000 will help us to continue that work.”
Persimmon Homes gives away up to £744,000 a year through Community Champions.
