NSPCC school volunteers arenāt able to deliver our freeĀ Speak Out. Stay SafeĀ assemblies in person at the moment, which is why weāve teamed up with Ant and Dec to make sure that we can continue to help keep children safe by making sure they know what to do and who to speak to if something is worrying them.
Our dedicated Schools Service team across South West and Mid Wales visited 65 primary schools during the last academic year, delivering our age-appropriate safeguarding sessions to 10,650 children in the regionĀ before lockdown was introduced.
The assembly, which features mascot Buddy, helps children understand how to recognise different forms of abuse and identify a trusted adult should they ever have a concern.
We know that since children returned to school, referrals from the NSPCC helpline to agencies in Wales about the wellbeing of children have increased and we are anticipating referrals to rise further.
Ant and Dec are helping us continue to reach children with our assemblies by hosting a new virtual version, addressing additional worries that children are experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
By signing up to the free virtual assemblies, which are available bilingually and in British Sign Language (BSL), primary schools across this region can help us keep children safe.
