Unhinged Review

Think about this. You come to a traffic light as you’re driving your kid to school. The light switches from red to green, but the driver ahead of you just stays there. You honk your horn to say move along, and yet, he stays put. Road rage over the years has reached an all-time high. How can you be sure how the driver ahead will respond to how you handle the situation? The answer… will the driver in front respond with an apology, or will he, or she just… snap?

In this story, Unhinged is about this very situation. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave a lump in your throat. This is possibly Russell Crowe at his best of intensity.

  • Russell Crowe as Tom Cooper
  • Caren Pistorius as Rachel Hunter: Kyle’s mother
  • Gabriel Bateman as Kyle Hunter: Rachel’s son
  • Jimmi Simpson as Andy: Rachel’s friend and divorce lawyer
  • Austin P. McKenzie as Fred: Rachel’s brother
  • Juliene Joyner as Mary: Fred’s girlfriend
  • Anne Leighton as Deborah Haskell: Rachel’s client
  • Michael Papajohn as Homer
  • Lucy Faust as Rosie
  • Devyn A. Tyler as Mrs Ayers

It truly is a scary thought about how dangerous a person can be behind the wheel of a car. (Especially) in today society. As for Tom Cooper, played by Russell Crowe. Looking at his story objectively, and even though the choices he made in this movie were, so heinous, I kind of understand where he’s coming from in his manner of thinking. I mean, think about it. You lose your job, your wife leaves you, I can’t remember if he had kids in this film, but if he did, I’m sure he lost them too. Tom Cooper has basically been trampled on his entire life and, it’s just really understanding how a person’s mind can simply break! Don’t get me wrong. I’m not condoning the choices that Cooper made in the movie. I’m only pointing out that the actions and attitudes we individually take toward another person, simply makes us accountable for what said person does in the future.

So if I were to give a friendly piece of advice, I’d say before you blow your car horn at someone, think about who may be behind the wheel!

As for the perspective of the performance, I give 10s al around. Caren Pistorius as a single mother was very believable and, the emotional scale was, absolutely outstanding.

Gabriel Bateman, I’m sorry to say felt quite average for a young actor. On the plus side, the chemistry between Pistorius and Bateman made up for that.

Russell Crowe, on the other hand, I have to say. Is there nothing this man can’t do? I mean the sheer depth of this character, and seriously, have you seen him lately???

The man has put on so much weight. I don’t know if it was for the part or not, but if it was, wow!

Crowe actually reminds me of John Goodman in this.

I guess that’s why he’s one of my all-time favourite actors. He really can do pretty much anything.

So as I said, 10s all around.
