Memorial Opened at Socially Distanced Service at Police Headquarters

A service was held at police headquarters in Carmarthen this week, in remembrance of Dyfed-Powys Police officers who have died in the line of duty (on Monday, October 26).

The service also marked the unveiling of a memorial stone, which is dedicated to their memory.

The date was chosen as it falls during the month of the 30th anniversary that four officers were killed on duty while surveillance training, in October 1990.

It also coincides with what would have been the rescheduled Unity Tour, an event to raise money for families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The usual event didn’t take place this year due to covid-19 restrictions, but officers and staff up and down the country participated in a virtual cycle ride instead.

The force chaplain, Reverend Tom Evans, led a dedication to the fallen officers:

·         PC Thomas Gareth Davies – died 18 June 1971, aged 23.

·         PC Hefin John Llewellyn – died 14 August 1971, aged 22.

·         PC David Christopher Hinchliff – died 3 June 1979, aged 19.

·         Sergeant William Mervyn C. Williams – died 30 July 1979, aged 36.

·         DC Roger Meyrick – died 18 October 1990, aged 37.

·         DC Nicholas George Tabraham – died 18 October 1990, aged 29.

·         DC Leonid Evans – died 18 October 1990, aged 41.

·         DC Paul John Hetherington – died 29 October 1990, aged 35.

·         DC Barrie Davies – died 11 October 2005 aged 38.

Dadorchuddio Cofeb mewn Gwasanaeth Arbennig ym Mhencadlys yr Heddlu

Yr wythnos hon, cynhaliwyd gwasanaeth ym Mhencadlys yr Heddlu, Caerfyrddin, er cof am swyddogion Heddlu Dyfed-Powys a fu farw wrth gyflawni eu dyletswydd (dydd Llun 26 Hydref).

Hefyd, dadorchuddiwyd cofeb iddynt yn y gwasanaeth.

Dewiswyd y dyddiad hwn oherwydd mae’n syrthio 30 mlynedd union ar ôl i 4 swyddog gael eu lladd yn ystod hyfforddiant gwyliadwriaeth fis Hydref 1990.

Yn ogystal, mae’n cyd-fynd â’r dyddiad yr oedd y daith Undod, sef digwyddiad i godi arian ar gyfer teuluoedd swyddogion heddlu sydd wedi colli eu bywydau wrth gyflawni eu dyletswydd, i’w chynnal. Ni chynhaliwyd y digwyddiad eleni oherwydd cyfyngiadau COVID-19. Yn hytrach, cymerodd swyddogion ledled y wlad ran mewn taith feiciau rithwir.

Arweiniodd y Parchedig Tom Evans, Caplan yr Heddlu, y cysegriad i’r swyddogion a syrthiodd:

·         PC Thomas Gareth Davies – bu farw 18 Mehefin 1971, yn 23 oed.

·         PC Hefin John Llewellyn – bu fawr 14 Awst 1971, yn 22 oed.

·         PC David Christopher Hinchliff – bu farw 3 Mehefin 1979, yn 19 oed.

·         Rhingyll William Mervyn C. Williams – bu farw 30 Gorffennaf 1979, yn 36 oed.

·         DC Roger Meyrick – bu farw 18 Hydref 1990, yn 37 oed.

·         DC Nicholas George Tabraham – bu fawr 18 Hydref 1990, yn 29 oed.

·         DC Leonid Evans – bu farw 18 Hydref 1990, yn 41 oed.

·         DC Paul John Hetherington – bu fawr 29 Hydref 1990, yn 35 oed.

·         DC Barrie Davies – bu farw 11 Hydref 2005 yn 38 oed.
