- New research from Premier Inn reveals different countries’ top Halloween flicks
- Wales loves Alien, The Shining and Doctor Sleep
With Halloween parties and trick-or-treats restricted this year, Premier Inn has researched the other super popular October pastime – getting under the blankets to watch a spooky horror movie.
The hotel chain researched IMDB’s most popular horror films, from vintage classics such as The Exorcist, Blair Witch Project and Scream, through to modern fright fests Hereditary, Midsommer and Doctor Sleep. To find out the most popular Halloween movies in 15 different countries across the world, the hotel chain compared the number of online searches made every October for over 80 popular modern and classic horror movies.

The shortlist of spooky favourites across the globe became clear, but the top spots for different countries did change, with Australia and Canada preferring to watch gore-heavy Saw, South Africa turning to the creepy Clown It for their Halloween scares, and Brazil choosing Resident Evil.
The films which made regular appearances in each countries’ top 13 Halloween movies included The Shining, Alien, The Conjuring II, Gerald’s Game, Zombieland: Double Tap and Insidious.
Alien takes the crown as the world’s favourite Halloween movie, taking top spot in over half of the countries included in the research.
