Temporary changes are being made at two wards in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen, to protect patients and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Dewi and Merlin Wards are temporarily closed to new admissions following a number of patients testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. There are less than 25 individuals between the two areas with confirmed positive COVID-19.
All patients in these areas have been tested and are being cared for appropriately with regular communication with them and their families or carers. As an extra safeguard, all staff working on the two wards are being screened and appropriate staffing arrangements are in place, including stringent infection prevention and control measures and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment.
As a precaution and to allow time to safely review staff that have worked in the area, a number of clinics have been postponed and will be rearranged.
Hospital General Manager Sarah Perry said: “COVID-19 is circulating in our communities, but thanks to testing and tracing, and stringent infection prevention measures, we are much more aware and able to deal with risks in order to protect our patients, staff and wider community.
“This is why we have contained two areas of Glangwili General Hospital at present, in line with our plans for managing in-hospital transmission of Covid. We are closely monitoring the situation and working with partners including Public Health Wales and the local authority.
“It is clear that COVID-19 cases are rising in our area and we would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to follow the guidelines that are in place to protect us all.
“Please keep yourselves and your loved ones safe by washing your hands regularly, staying 2 metres apart from people outside of your household, and wearing a facemask when it is not possible to be 2 metres apart.
“We know this feels hard right now as we live and work in this community, but taking these steps protects us all.”

Mae newidiadau dros dro yn cael eu gwneud ar ddwy ward yn Ysbyty Cyffredino Glangwili, Caerfyrddin, i ddiogelu cleifion ac atal lledaeniad COVID-19.
Mae Ward Dewi a Ward Merlin ar gau dros dro i dderbyniadau newydd gan fod nifer o gleifion wedi profi’n bosotif am COVID-19 ar y wardiau hyn dros y penwythnos. Mae llai na 25 unigolyn wedi profi’n bositif gyda COVID-19 rhwng y ddwy ward.
Mae pob claf yn yr ardaloedd hyn wedi’u profi ac yn cael gofal priodol, ac mae cyfathrebu rheolaidd gyda nhw a’u teuluoedd neu eu gofalwyr. Fel amddiffyniad ychwanegol, mae pob aelod o staff y ddwy ward yn cael eu sgrinio ac mae trefniadau staffio priodol ar waith, gan gynnwys mesurau atal a rheoli heintiau llym a defnydd priodol o offer amddiffyn personol.
Fel rhagofal, ac i ganiatáu amser i adolygu staff sydd wedi gweithio ar y wardiau, mae nifer o glinigau wedi’u gohirio a byddant yn cael eu haildrefnu.
Meddai Sarah Perry, Rheolwr Cyffredinol yr ysbyty: “Mae COVID-19 yn cylchredeg yn ein cymunedau, ond gyda phrofi ac olrhain a mesurau atal heintiau llym, rydym yn llawer mwy ymwybodol ac mewn sefyllfa well i ddelio â risgiau er mwyn diogelu ein cleifion a’n staff a’r gymuned ehangach.
“Dyma pam rydym wedi ynysu’r ddwy ward hon yn Ysbyty Cyffredinol Glangwili ar hyn o bryd, yn unol â’n cynlluniau ar gyfer rheoli trosglwyddiad Covid yn yr ysbyty. Rydym yn monitro’r sefyllfa’n agos ac yn gweithio gyda phartneriaid yn cynnwys Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru a’r awdurdod lleol.
“Mae’n amlwg bod achosion o COVID-19 yn codi yn ein hardal, a hoffwn gymryd y cyfle hwn i ofyn i bawb i ddilyn y canllawiau sydd ar waith i amddiffyn pawb.
“Cadwch eich hun a’ch anwyliaid yn ddiogel trwy olchi eich dwylo’n rheolaidd, cadw pellter o 2 fetr wrth bobl nad ydynt yn byw yn yr un tŷ â chi a gwisgo mwgwd pan nad yw’n posib bod 2 fetr arwahân.
“Gwyddom bod hyn yn teimlo’n anodd ar hyn o bryd wrth inni fyw a gweithio yn y gymuned hon, ond mae cymryd y camau hyn yn diogelu pob un ohonom.”
Os oes gennych unrhyw symptomau o COVID-19 – peswch newydd parhaus, tymheredd uchel, colled neu newid i arogl neu flas – trefnwch brawf trwy wefan y DU gyfan neu trwy’r gwasanaeth dwy-ieithog dros y ffôn trwy ffonio 119 rhwng 7am ac 11pm (gan pobl sydd ag anhawster clyw neu leferydd ffonio 18001 119).
