Staff in each Care Home across Ceredigion are routinely tested fortnightly for COVID-19, in line with government guidelines. From last weeks’ testing, COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed at MHA Hafan y Waun Care Home, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth, which is an independent Care Home. A number of staff received positive test results and therefore all residents were tested. A number of residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and an incident has been declared at the Home.
A multi-agency Incident Management Team has been established to respond to this incident. Ceredigion County Council is working closely with the Home, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Public Health Wales to contain the virus.
The residents’ families have all been contacted by the Home and staff will provide regular updates will be provided to all families over the coming days and weeks. Ceredigion County Council and Hywel Dda University Health Board are providing support to staff and residents at the Home along with MHA, the national older person’s charity which runs Hafan y Waun.
Looking after our care home residents is of paramount importance to Ceredigion County Council. Visits to Care Homes in Ceredigion remain suspended and residents are being supported to keep in touch with family and friends via telephone and video conferencing / skype calls. We are extremely grateful for the co-operation shown by staff, care home residents, their families and members of the public as we take every step to keep Ceredigion’s residents safe and well.
It’s as important as ever that we all keep a safe distance, wash our hands regularly and wear a face covering when it’s not possible to keep a social distance. Anyone who develops any COVID-19 symptoms must follow self-isolation guidance and arrange a test immediately, only leaving home to get tested.
