Pembrokeshire County Council will be taking part in the Local Government Association’s second #CouncilsCan Day – an online celebration to highlight the critical work of local government during the coronavirus pandemic.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Pembrokeshire County Council has worked tirelessly to keep services running during the crisis and support residents and businesses. This includes:

·         Setting up the Community Hub to support those who need extra help

·         Maintaining key services such as education, social services and waste and recycling

·         Providing equipment and support to the care sector through the Provider Hub

·         Processing and paying millions of pounds of business support grants

·         Providing staff for vital Test, Trace and Protect roles

Councillors and officers from Pembrokeshire County Council will be taking part in the national social media campaign today (Tuesday 10th November) to promote ongoing council efforts to lead communities through this crisis and beyond.

Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Cllr David Simpson, said: “I’m very proud of the way Council Officers, supported by Cabinet and all Councillors have reacted and responded to the many challenges that Covid-19 has created.

“It has been even more important than ever that the services that support people’s lives have been able to continue during this difficult time.

“Staff have gone above and beyond throughout this time and they, and I, are extremely grateful for the support of the public.”

Cllr Peter Fleming, Chairman of the LGA’s Improvement and Innovation Board, said: “In this time of national crisis, it is council staff who have kept our communities running and provided crucial local leadership.

“While showcasing this vital and fantastic work, the LGA will be using the #CouncilsCan Day to highlight that councils can have an even greater impact on the health and wealth of our country with proper and sustainable funding.”
