In response, Andrew RT Davies MS – the Shadow Health Minister – has commented, saying:

“The Labour Party has been responsible for running the Welsh NHS and social care for over 20 years and have sadly let down hardworking frontline staff.

“Successive Labour governments have consistently failed to recruit and retain nurses, and as this damning report highlights, there is now a costly and excessive reliance on agency staff.

“Welsh Conservatives would implement a robust recovery plan to put the NHS and social care system in Wales back on track, starting with an overhaul of nurse training and the introduction of a new nursing apprenticeship.

“Hospitals and care homes in Wales are screaming out for more nurses, and this would be a top priority for a future Welsh Conservative government.”
