Andrew RT Davies MS – the Shadow Minister for Health – has said that the “new deal” on care-home visiting must be made clearer – and fast.
The Health Minister alluded to this during today’s Welsh Government Covid briefing when pressed on the matter by journalists.
Mr Davies said:
“We all know of people who have had precious little contact with their relatives staying in care homes or other domiciliary care settings over the last eight months.
“Sadly, we hear of their quality of life diminishing, and for some people with cognitive issues or dementia, forgetting who their close family members are.
“The little bit of hope that Health Minister dangled in front of thousands of people today who are missing their loved ones was, if not backed up with detail and a firm plan, cruel.
“I urge the Minister to apply the same rules on testing the close relatives of people in residential and domiciliary care homes as for staff, and get a programme of testing with a rapid turnaround so that families can meet up again at last.”
