Cardiff drugs warning: Update and appeal

Police in Cardiff are continuing to investigate the death of a 25-year-old man and an incident which has left an 18-year-old woman in a critical condition.
There is nothing at this stage to suggest they are connected but detectives are keeping an open mind and investigating the possibility that the drug Ketamine might be a factor.
Users of controlled drugs are once again reminded that they should be aware that they can never be 100% sure of exactly what they are taking.
These drugs are illegal and there is every possibility that they may contain a cocktail of toxic ingredients.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Moore, from South Wales Police, said: “Two families have been left devastated by these tragic events over the weekend and they are being supported by officers as we continue with our enquiries.
“One man has died and a female student residing at Llys Talybont Halls of Residence is critically ill in hospital.
“SWP detectives are working hard to establish the exact circumstances and would appeal for anyone with information to please contact us.”
Police were called to Taff Street in Tongwynlais at around 12.15am on Sunday, November 15 to reports of a collapsed male.
Despite the best efforts of his friends, police officers and medical professionals, he died a short while later at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Eight people were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. Of these, seven have been released under investigation and one man has been charged.
31-year-old Richard Rees from Pentrebane was due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, and possession of cannabis.
Around 24 hours earlier, at around 12.40am on Saturday, November 14, emergency services were called to Llys Talybont where a female student was found collapsed by flat mates.
The 18-year-old remains in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. Her family have been informed and have travelled to Cardiff.
Detectives have been speaking to residents at Talybont to establish her movements on Friday night and are appealing for anyone with information to approach officers on site or contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence *414468.
