Paul Davies MS – the Leader of the Opposition in the Welsh Parliament – today rounded on the First Minister over his decision to extend the curfew on pubs and restaurants in Wales, and prohibit the sale of all alcohol in them.

The measures will be brought in from Friday.

Welsh Conservative Mr Davies, speaking later, said:

“I asked the First Minister to explain his Draconian decision to Wales’ publicans, restaurateurs, brewers, and employees.

“I asked him to say how confident he is that his measures will reduce transmission rates and not result in people having house parties instead, because they can’t buy an alcoholic drink in a pub.

“I asked him to say which hospitality sector leaders he spoke with after inviting them to discuss his proposals.

“I asked, but I and the Welsh hospitality sector received no answers, and his reluctance to take the opportunity to give answers to Wales speaks volumes.

“They deserve better. Wales deserves better.”
