Llanelli LGBTQ+ Support have been awarded over £13,000 to help them tackle the problems that Covid19 has been causing the Llanelli LGBTQ+ Community.
The Grants are part of the Community Foundation Wales Respond and Recover Fund. The Respond grant is for organisations delivering emergency support to those affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, while Recover is aimed at strengthening communities and/or strengthening the organisations that provide vital support to communities.
Keith Evans-Hurley, chair said:
“We’d like to thank the Foundation for awarding this money which will help us provide valuable support to the local LGBTQ+ Community.”
The group help supports the LGBTQ+ Community and their families and covers the electoral ward of Llanelli. This includes the areas of Pembrey/Burry Port, Kidwelly, Pontyberem, Llannnon, Cross Hands, and Hendy.
“We currently have two priorities at the moment, these are Youth and Mental Health Support. We’re worried about the mental health needs of our community and would like to put in place some measures to help support our members.”
The funding will see the organisation employ a Support Officer, set up a Youth Hub, provide online support, encourage the youth to engage with the project, train volunteers to provide
support/information and publicise the project to the community.
