The Dreamcatchers team has raised £3,000 for two charities after completing a ‘6,500 charity challenge’ over land and sea.

The challenge was a 6,500-mile journey of endurance which included the Welsh Three Peaks event and incorporated miles of swimming, cycling, running and walking.

The group of sport endurance women, who are all from the Tenby area, included Amy Drewett, Lana Brace, Philippa Graham, Jo Carlile, Caroline Cumberlin, Evie Fowke, Tracey Scotcher, Cindy Richards, Anne Rossiter, Alex Rees and Nina Goldsworthy-Griffiths. Debbie Williams also took part in the challenge up to the Welsh Three Peaks.

The ladies smashed their original fundraising target of £1,500 to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance and a local mental health charity Give the Boys a Lift.

The challenge was the idea of Caroline Cumberlin, who suggested that they could fundraise for charities affected by the pandemic, whilst their usual events were put on hold.

A delighted Caroline said: “My whole team of Dreamcatchers embraced this brainchild of mine, continued through injury, wind and rain, a two-week lockdown, shielding and other challenges, and never stopped encouraging one another or clocking up the miles.”

The Dreamcatchers would like to thank everyone who has donated and followed them throughout the fundraiser. This includes Lloyds Bank for match-funding £500 for the Wales Air Ambulance, Harbour Wealth of Tenby which gave a £150 kick-start to the fundraising, Big Brums who sponsored the Dreamcatchers’ tops, and Manorbier Post Office and Stores for sponsoring jackets.

To celebrate completing the 6,500 charity challenge, the sportswomen gathered on Tenby’s North Beach together for a socially distanced celebration to mark achieving their goal.

Mark Stevens, the South Wales fundraising manager for the Wales Air Ambulance, said: “A massive thank you to all the women who took part in this huge fundraiser. Despite all the obstacles they faced throughout lockdown, they continued until the challenge was completed to raise money for two important charities. Thank you to everyone who donated to the fundraiser and congratulations on doubling your target. It is people like the Dreamcatchers team who will continue to keep our lifesaving service running 24/7.”
